All children have the courage to play, but barriers such as limited family budgets or the need for an adaptive environment can keep them from participating.
Can Play strives to increase the positive impacts on youth through the growth and evolution of adaptive and no-cost sports and recreational activities.
The organization has created programs for underserved participants to give them the opportunity to play and build self-confidence despite the barriers.
Position
Summary:
Can Play's Recreation Program Lead will assist with recreational and sports programs for children living with barriers to play.
This includes financial, physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges.
This position will assist in the planning, organizing and directing of programs for our participants in communities across the Des Moines area.
Programs involve physical, creative, cognitive, and social components in accordance with our participants' needs.
The position responsibilities & accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Assists in planning and executing recreational and sports activities.
Encourages social communication through group recreation.
Provides programs in all recreation component areas on an individual and group basis.
Assists program managers and Can Play leadership as needed with program development and implementation.
Provides input into the design of community programs.
Attends appropriate in-service training programs.
Assists in the maintenance, storage, and use of the recreation department supplies.
Performs other responsibilities as directed by the Programming Director.
Puts our families' services first by ensuring that members and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes our participants' needs and rights.
Performs other duties as requested.
Must be able to lift/pull up to 50 lbs; loading/unloading program equipment and potentially lifting/repositioning children with physical challenges Be able to stand for an extended period of time
Qualifications:
High School Diploma, Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree Background in Health or Exercise Science Related Field Interest in working with the at risk and special needs Population Passion for Sports & Fitness Enthusiasm To inquire about this position, go to can-play.
